Dr. V. I. Ovod

Light Scattering and Particle Measuring Instruments:
Persons and Events

  • Dr. D. W. Mackowski, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Auburn University, AL.
Specialty Areas: Radiative Heat Transfer, Analysis of Electromagnetic Scattering, Diagnostic Methods in Flames, Aerosol Physics, Combustion.
  • Dr. M. I. Mishchenko, NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, New York.
Research Interests: Scattering and absorption of electromagnetic radiation (from ultraviolet to radiowave frequencies) by particles and surfaces, radiative transfer, remote sensing, effect of aerosols and clouds on climate.
  • Dr.-Ing. Th. Wriedt, Process Engineering Department, University of Bremen, Germany.
His group is mainly working on the development of Phase Doppler Anemometry, a Laser based particle sizing method. This includes development of new instruments based on Laser diodes and photodetectors and improvement of signal processors based on the FFT. There are some reasearch project in light scattering to take into account Gaussian beam effects, nonspherical particles and coated spheres. By improved postprocessing algorithms submicron particles can be sized and an inversion method is developed to investigate sprays of an optically inhomogeneous liquid.
